We are excited to announce the appointment of Professor Ann Tarca to the position of Research Director at the AASB.
The appointment of an academic professor to this role recognises the vital contribution research plays in the development of high quality accounting standards. The role will also lead to greater collaboration between academia, business and the AASB.
As a Professor of Accounting at the University of Western Australia with a PhD qualification and Fellow membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Professor Tarca is well qualified to promote and drive research relevant to standard setting, and enhance our international profile.
A member of the AASB since 2014, Professor Tarca brings more than 20 years’ of academic experience to the role as well as strong connections with both the international academic community and the professional community. In 2011-12, she was an Academic Fellow at the International Accounting Standards Board in London. Her most recent position was Head of the Accounting and Finance group at the Business School of the University of Western Australia. Professor Tarca has published widely in internationally recognised journals. She has presented her research in a variety of academic settings as well as to practitioners, regulators and the IASB.
Professor Tarca will commence as Research Director on 20 February, 2017. She will retain a part time appointment at the University of Western Australia. However, she will step down from the AASB Board.
